NYC Marathon is the biggest and fastest marathon in the world. In 2023 almost 50,000 people lined at the start line to run the marathon. Weather was perfect at 10 degree celcius.

Men's and Women's startup was looking best of the best. Top 6 athletes in men had run under 2:06 hrs earlier. Tamirat Tola was the fastest.

NYC marathon has a unique route. The moment you start there is a upward gradient. This is unheard in marathon routes around the world.

Inspite of the tough start the Women;s lead pack crossed the 5kms under 18 mins and 10 K was finished under 35 mins. Men's pack finished 5 kms under 16 mins and 10 K was finished under 31 mins. Till 15 kms there was a good chance for course record to fall.

While Women's race was very tightluy contested, In mens category Tamirat Tola broke away from rest well before the finish line. Tamirat was consistently running at 4:39 mins / mile pace. There are no pace setters in this marathon.

The final 2 kms were the most dramatic finishes one has witnessed. Till last 2 kms there were 5 athletes in contention for winner. Inf last 1.6 kms it became 3 women race.

With just 400 meters to go Obiri made huge strides and raced ahead of Gidey. This was one of the most exciting and close finishes in NYC marathon 2023.

Tamirat broke Geoffrey Mutai's course record by 8 seconds. The final mile is uphill in NYC Marathon 2023.
