Meet Kelvin Kiptum, new world record holder in Marathon. He finished Chicago marathon in 2:00:35, just short of sub 2 hr time.

Surprisingly he hadnt run a single marathon until 10 months ago. In December 2022 he won Valencia marathon and London Marathon in April 2023

His run in Chicago was so extraordinary that 1st runner up Daniel Kibet Mateiko was 3 mins 27 seconds behind Kiptum. Something unheard of in marathons

Kelvin, grew up in Chepkorio, in Elgeyo Marakwet county was very passionate about running. He started professional training at age of 13. He was surrounded by marathoners.

Many from the running community expected him to named as elite runner in Berlin Marathon, but he wanted to run Chicago marathon as this would give some time to prepare

Kelvin was born on 2nd December 1999 and was greatly inspired by his village mate, Geoffrey Kamworor who won New York marathon twice.
