Eliud Kipchoge's statue unvieled at Nike hq
If anyone asks who would be the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) when it comes to marathon as a professional sport, the first name which would pop up in your midn would be Eliud Kipchoge. The kenyan has a jaw dropping record and had held the world record in marathon for some time. He has also been associated very closely with Nike and has helped them design many of their running shoes.
Eliud has won marathons in Chicago, Berlin, London and also has two olympic medals in 5000 meters. Nike in collaboration with American artist Alison Caswell has created a bronze sculpture to honour Eliud. The statue is placed at Nike’s headquarter in Beaverton, Oregon in United States. The statue is in Eliud’s running pose and the watch has a timing of 1:59:40 which he achieved when he ran the INEOS challenge in Vienna in 2019.
Eliud has also been awarded the prestigious Princess of Asturias sports award for 2023. The ceremony was held on 20th October 2023 in Oviedo, Spain and was presided over by the Spain’s royal family. The award carries a prize money of $53,000.
